La Mesa
For Pacific Bell, today marks the end of a telecommunications era. But, for about 28,000 La Mesa customers, today means the beginning of faster phone connections and access to services already available in the rest of San Diego County.
A $4-million electronic switching system will be activated today for residents and businesses with 460, 461, 462 and 465 phone prefixes, Pacific Bell spokesman Tom McNaghten said.
The computerized system will give customers faster telephone connections and access to the company’s call waiting, call forwarding, three-way calling and speed-calling services, he said.
The installation of the new system marks the complete changeover to electronic equipment from electromechanical relay switching, McNaghten said.
