DANA POINT : Trash Pickup Fees Will Go Up Again
The City Council approved an increase of nearly 10% in monthly trash collection bills this week, the second hike this year.
Four council members voted unanimously Tuesday to allow Solag Disposal Inc., a private firm contracted to collect trash for the city, to raise its residential curbside collection fee from $9.99 to $10.96 a month. The rate increase comes after the County Board of Supervisors raised landfill gate fees for trash haulers by 28% effective July 1.
“I’d like everyone to know it’s not the city doing this; you can thank the county for it,” Councilwoman Karen Lloreda said.
Commercial rates were also increased. The rates for once-weekly pickup of a 3-cubic-yard dumpster went from $67.36 to $71.95; to have it picked up six times a week went from $245.98 to $273.46.
The previous rate increase granted Solag came in January, when residential rates were raised about 3% and commercial rates about 3.5%.
