Theft Ring Smashed: Law enforcement officials said they smashed a major theft ring that reaped at least $6 million over two years selling computer parts stolen from Digital Equipment Corp. A federal indictment charged 16 people with what prosecutors described as a “massive scheme” involving the bribery of Digital employees, the planting of a defendant as a security chief at a warehouse and theft seemingly at will on a daily basis. As the indictment was unsealed, all 16 people were arrested, including four current or former employees of Maynard, Mass.-based Digital.
