Genentech Inc.: The South San Francisco biotech company said its second-quarter profit doubled to $11.4 million, although earnings in the 1990 quarter were lowered by a $7.2-million charge related to its merger with Roche Holding Ltd. Genentech’s second-quarter revenue rose 15% to $129.5 million. The company said sales of its Protropin growth hormone were up 13% and its Activase heart drug 4%.
