Compliance Question Delays Vote on New Noise Law

A vote on a proposed overhaul of the Glendale noise ordinance was delayed Tuesday after council members expressed concern that some businesses that had been in compliance with the old ordinance might not be in compliance with the new version.

Assistant City Manager Bob McFall said the new ordinance was written to incorporate new technology for measuring noise pollution, but he said it will not dramatically alter the allowable noise levels in most neighborhoods.

“We are not aware of any situation that will not comply with the new ordinance,” McFall said.

But McFall said city officials will write a grandfather clause to protect businesses that are in compliance with the old law but may not comply with the new standards.

The revision is scheduled to be considered by the council at its meeting July 30.
