SEAL BEACH : Swim Contests and Pier Meals Offered

The annual rough-water swim and Lions Club fish fry will be held today in the pier area.

More than 500 swimmers are expected to participate in the 23rd annual rough-water swim, one of the oldest in the state. Contestants have already registered for races of 3 and 10 miles. They will be accompanied by paddlers or kayakers.

Competitors in a 1-mile contest and races for different age groups may register today.

The 10-mile race will begin near the Huntington Beach Pier at 6 a.m., with the 3-mile race starting west of the Seal Beach Pier at 8 a.m. Other races will follow.

For those working up an appetite either swimming or watching, the host Seal Beach Lions Club will serve a pancake breakfast today from 7 to 11 a.m. on Main Street near the pier.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday, the Lions will hold a fish fry near the pier, with cod, french fries and coleslaw served. Proceeds will benefit various charities the Lions support.
