BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Daniels Hopes to Rejoin Team Tuesday

Share

Outfielder Kal Daniels, sounding weary but relieved, said Friday that he hoped to rejoin the Dodgers next Tuesday in Los Angeles after spending the past week tending to his ill mother in their Warner Robins, Ga., home.

“I think everything is going to be all right now,” Daniels said by phone. “At least I hope so.” He declined to discuss the nature of his mother’s ailment.

The Dodgers are 1-6 since Daniels left the team a week ago in Montreal.

Tim Belcher met with Manager Tom Lasorda before Friday’s game to discuss his unhappiness over being removed from Thursday’s game with a one-run lead in the second inning.

“I had my say, lets leave it at that,” Belcher said. “I don’t want to make a mountain out of a molehill. I was unhappy, but it’s over with.

“I haven’t been able to throw the ball past anybody this year . . . maybe it’s a lingering effect of the surgery (on his shoulder last fall).” Belcher has given up 13 runs in his last 13 innings. Before that, he pitched 15 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings.

Mike Scioscia is scheduled to rejoin the team off the disabled list today. . . . As expected, the Dodgers have padded their outfield wall for the first time since Dodger Stadium was opened in 1962. Darryl Strawberry suffered a separated shoulder when he ran into the right-field wall May 15.
