Baldwin Park : Utility Tax Reinstated

Share

The City Council voted 4 to 1 Wednesday to reinstate a utility tax on businesses and residents that has been suspended since 1985.

The 3% tax will be levied on electric, gas, water, telephone and cable television bills and will generate about $1 million annually for Baldwin Park, City Manager Donald Penman said.

Council members said they intend to use the money to beef up the city’s understaffed police force and hire a code enforcement officer. Baldwin Park residents will begin to see the tax on their utility bills early this fall, Penman said.
