La Puente : Street Seeks Name Change

Share

Residents of Dial Street say they want to change the name of their short, dead-end road because it has come to be associated with a local gang. They will request the change during a public hearing at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

In a letter to city officials signed by four of the six families who live there, residents explained that a gang originated on Dial Street many years ago. But they said the gang’s members have now grown up and carry on their activities across town.

Still, the street has been the target of shootings by rival gangs, according to the letter. Residents said gang members fired shots at the street sign last summer, narrowly missing children playing nearby. They added that pizza shops have even refused to deliver to addresses on the street.

Sheriff’s officials, under contract to patrol La Puente, could not immediately provide crime statistics for the street.
