Shortly after midnight Friday, a man and two teen-age girls leaving a party were hit by shots fired from a passing car, apparently in retaliation for an earlier fight that erupted between party-goers, police said Saturday.

Police Sgt. Dick Faust said Angel Hernandez, 30, of Santa Ana was hit in the face by a bullet and flown to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where he was listed in critical condition.

A 15-year-old girl from Garden Grove and a 17-year-old girl from Huntington Beach were hospitalized at UCI Medical Center in Orange with “not very serious” wounds, Faust said. Police withheld the names of the juveniles.

Detectives who went to the scene described the gathering as a “large party” at 2611 West 9th St. that began Friday night and continued into the morning. At one point, a fight broke out between groups at the party, but the scuffle ended.

As a group left the party, Faust said, suspects in an unidentified car sped by, firing the shots.

Police said they have no suspects and no description of the car.
