Supervisors Call a Halt to Costly Annual Report

Share

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday unanimously called on the County Transportation Commission to halt production of a 36-page annual report that could cost up to $130,000. Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who authored the motion, said the money for the glossy report could better be spend on transit programs.

Commission officials say the report will help community leaders, business executives and local government agencies become aware of the commission’s activities, including the development of transit projects throughout the county. But Antonovich said, “We don’t need a fancy annual report, developed at taxpayer expense until we can afford programs that will improve our transportation system.”

The commission voted 7 to 2 last month, with two abstentions, to pay an outside graphics firm $90,000 to write and produce the report. The actual printing of the report will cost an additional $30,000 to $40,000.
