Video Rental Charts : ‘GoodFellas’ Tops ‘Cop’

Share

The remarkably strong showing of “GoodFellas” is one of the rental-chart surprises of the summer. It continues to top the Billboard magazine chart, beating out even “Kindergarten Cop,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The appeal of “GoodFellas” is largely based on the critical acclaim and Joe Pesci’s best-supporting Oscar. The word in the industry is that word-of-mouth among renters has provided a big boost. “Almost an Angel,” starring Paul Hogan, didn’t do much at the box office and is doing just as little in the rental market. It slipped from No. 21 to No. 27 this week. After an impressive debut last week--at No. 11--”Look Who’s Talking Too,” the sequel starring Kirstie Alley, didn’t exactly bolt up the chart, inching up just one notch to No. 10. This one may have already peaked.

* “Misery,” featuring the performance that won Kathy Bates’ the best-actress Oscar, has a good shot at the rental-chart throne. This box-office hit, which grossed nearly $60 million, debuted at No. 7.
