Citizens Oppose Assessment District

Representative government fails when those charged with the duty of representing the interests and concerns of the citizens ignore the pleas, albeit demands, of their constituents.

The evening of July 17 again confirmed that the members of the Port Hueneme City Council are nothing more than yes boys whose decisions govern only the good old boy network.

The City Council listened intently as city staff presented 2 1/2 hours of testimony on why the Beach Maintenance Assessment District should be passed as drafted by city staff. Citizens in attendance during public hearings, however, were not astonished when council members fell asleep, showed total lack of interest and basically ignored majority opinion that the tax assessment district as proposed should not be passed.

The city of Port Hueneme will raise $150,000 by this assessment district, but will spend more than that fighting the impending legal battle to come.

It is time that government return to the people. It is the time that the citizens of Port Hueneme dispense with the fraud that is our current City Council and in the future elect free and independent-thinking, mature adults.
