SAN CLEMENTE : Pair Chased, Nabbed in Kidnaping Case

Police arrested two Oceanside men early Thursday after they allegedly kidnaped a man and led officers on two harrowing chases through Orange and San Diego counties.

The two were captured after they allegedly accosted the victim at a local motel and reportedly threatened to kill him once they returned him to their Oceanside employer, who apparently is involved in drugs, San Clemente Police Sgt. Richard Downing said.

David A. Jackson, 26, and Anthony R. Turner, 26, both of Oceanside, face a variety of criminal charges, including kidnaping, assault and battery and evading police, Downing said.

Jackson was being held in San Clemente City Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, while Turner was being held in Vista Jail in San Diego County on $5,000 bail.

Just before midnight on Wednesday, the victim, Cordell Jones, 23, of Oceanside, had driven his black Camaro to the Algodon Motel on South El Camino Real to meet his girlfriend, 29-year-old Nicole Lafer of El Toro, Downing said.

But when he walked into the room, he was allegedly confronted by Jackson and Turner. Lafer had already been tied up and put into a closet, Downing said.

Holding a gun to Jones’ head, the two bound and gagged him and forced him into the back of a Ford Bronco, Downing said. The suspects were standing outside the motel when San Clemente Officer Daryl Alison drove past and then returned to the motel. Jackson then jumped into the Bronco and Turner got into the Camaro and sped off toward Interstate 5.

Alison tailed the Bronco, and as it entered the freeway at a high rate of speed, he saw Jones rise into view in the back of the truck and wave frantically with his bound hands.

During the chase, Jackson threw what was later identified as a stolen police pistol out of the truck, police said. Jackson eventually pulled over and was arrested. Jones was not seriously hurt, police said.

About an hour later, Turner led Oceanside police on a chase, during which two police cars collided.

The chase ended on a dead-end street in Carlsbad, where Turner was arrested.
