BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : ANGELS

Reggie Jackson, who will participate in the Yankees’ Old Timers festivities today for the first time, said neither the Angels nor the A’s should be written off in the AL West.

“I’m a little disappointed we’re not up there higher, but I’m proud of where we are considering the injuries we’ve had,” said Jackson, who is a hitting instructor for the A’s and represents Upper Deck, the Yorba Linda-based trading card company. “These guys have had every reason to check out, but they haven’t. They’re hanging tough, but Minnesota is playing well. I’m not surprised Minnesota is in first place.

“The Angels are still in it. There’s a long way to play and Dave Winfield is still a great player, although he may have slowed up. Dave Parker still has 150 to 200 at-bats to turn things around, too.”
