Residents Divided Over Fox’s Plans

As president of Friends of Fox, a volunteer, community-based support group for the 20th Century Fox studio, I have come across only a handful of people who object to plans to renovate and expand its Century City lot, “Fox Must Clear Zoning Hurdle to Renovate Site” (July 17).

The overwhelming majority of the community surrounding the studio not only strongly supports the plans but also has a hard time figuring out why anyone would oppose it. We have collected about 750 signatures from people who want to keep Fox in our neighborhood and who are willing to say so publicly.

If the studio cannot renovate and expand its facilities, it will move. That is unacceptable to us because Fox is a good neighbor, it provides millions of dollars in benefits to our economy and the last thing that this neighborhood needs is more condominiums, which is what will be built if Fox leaves.

I realize that stories must be “balanced” and show all sides of the issue. But in the Fox story, the positive side is enormous, and the opposition is a tiny, politically motivated, highly vocal minority.
