CYPRESS : District Gets $136,800 School Fitness Grant

Share

Students in the Cypress Elementary School District will have an easier time keeping in shape next year, thanks to a fitness grant recently received by the district.

The National Fitness Campaign and Kaiser Health Pavilion donated $136,800 to the district this month for the purchase of physical education equipment. All nine school sites will receive a set of equipment, which is a series of exercise stations.

As a condition of the grant, the board approved the expenditure of more than $22,000 for implementation of the program. The district also agreed to build a large sandbox area at each school to hold the equipment.

It is the first year the district has applied for the grant. The original application was for only five of the schools, but officials at National Fitness Campaign and Kaiser Health Pavilion decided to fund all nine school sites.

The new equipment, slated to be in place by October, will be used in conjunction with the current physical education program, Assistant Supt. Donald Kouzes said.
