Three armed men broke into a Pacific Beach home, tied up two of the occupants and shot a third during a struggle, police said Monday.

Peter Moon, 33, of the 900 block of Archer Street was in serious condition at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, a hospital spokeswoman said. Moon had been shot three times, twice in the chest and once in the arm.

The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the Archer Street house where Moon lives with three roommates, said Lt. Jerry Moody of the Police Department.

The gunmen--carrying a rifle, a semiautomatic weapon, and a handgun--slipped through an unlocked door and confronted David Howard, 30, and Dorian Grossman, age unavailable. At gunpoint, the robbers tied up Howard and Grossman and demanded to see another resident of the Archer Street house, Moody said.

Howard was also struck in the back of the head with the butt of a gun, Moody said. He required stitches but was not hospitalized, Moody said.

Moody said one of the gunmen wore a Halloween-type clown mask, and another covered his face with a bandanna. The third gunmen did not wear a mask, he said.

Moon arrived home during the robbery to find his roommates bound, Moody said. During a struggle with one of the gunmen, Moon was shot.

Moody said the robbers escaped with a small amount of jewelry taken from Grossman. No suspects were in custody Monday, and Moody said police knew no motive for the robbery.
