The United States will play in the 1993 South American Soccer Championship as preparation for the 1994 World Cup, the Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football announced.

The United States and Argentina also will play next year in the first Americas Challenge Cup. That game could mark the return to soccer of Argentine captain Diego Maradona, whose 15-month suspension for a positive cocaine test runs until June 30, 1992.
