$40,000 Raised to Fulfill Wishes

Make A Wish Foundation’s “Fantasy-Filled Auction,” held July 13 at the home of Marilyn and Harry Lewis, netted more than $40,000. Proceeds will be used to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

* Hollywood Sunset Community Clinic’s Cara A Cara program received a $15,000 grant July 16 from Insure, a nonprofit foundation funded by the life and health insurance industries. Cara A Cara will use the funds for bilingual AIDS prevention education for the Latino population.

* Heal the Bay, an environmental organization created to stop pollution of Santa Monica Bay and Southern California coastal waters, will receive about $40,000, proceeds from a July 25 art auction and cocktail reception. Bobi Leonard Design Center in Santa Monica hosted the event.

* Blind Children’s Center received a $100,000 grant from the Weingart Foundation June 12 to install a new heating and air conditioning system. Also on June 12, the center received a $20,000 gift from the LAPD Centurions. The funds will be used for support services for families of students.

* Gentlemen Concerned held its sixth annual garden party July 14 at the Los Angeles Ebell Club to benefit people with AIDS. More than 300 guests attended the event, which netted more than $33,000. Gentlemen Concerned, an organization of black professional men, has raised more than $136,000 to fund Dignity House, Rue’s House and the Minority AIDS cash assistance program.

USC School of Medicine has announced a $150,000 award from the Hanson-White Foundation to further research activities.

* Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Center for Motion Picture Study received $25,000 July 23 from Illig Construction, the firm that converted the former Beverly Hills Waterworks into the center. Proceeds will benefit the endowment campaign.

* Doheny Eye Institute has received $65,000, proceeds from the annual luncheon and fashion show sponsored by the Luminaires. More than 350 guests attended the March 13 event. Proceeds will benefit vision research laboratories.
