Cypress Park bond agent Mike Hernandez, who has a long list of endorsements in the Aug. 13 special runoff election to succeed political ally Gloria Molina on the Los Angeles City Council, has raised nearly $300,000 in contributions, according to campaign statements filed Thursday.

Hernandez’s total of $296,193.66 far exceeds the $28,715.37 raised by his rival for the 1st Council District seat, Chinatown attorney Sharon Mee Yung Lowe, the statements showed. Hernandez, endorsed by Molina, topped the field of six candidates in the June 4 primary with 42% of the vote. Lowe came in second with 21%.

Meanwhile, city officials announced that next Tuesday is the final day to apply for absentee ballots by mail for the election.
