Diego Maradona, suspended from professional soccer in March after testing positive for cocaine following an Italian League match, said in a radio interview in Buenos Aires that he is definitely hanging up his cleats.

“I won’t play professional soccer again,” the 30-year-old forward said. “It’s an irrevocable decision.”

The soccer star has changed his mind before, but he seemed more serious in the interview with Radio Continental.

“I won’t play for the national team, either,” said Maradona, who was captain of the Argentine team that won the 1986 World Cup and was runner-up to West Germany last year. “I understand it’s time to make way for young players, and Argentina today has very good players to replace me, like Leonardo Rodriguez and Diego Latorre.”
