BREA : Redevelopment Hearing Postponed

Share

Final approval of a 50-acre downtown redevelopment project has been postponed until Sept. 3 to allow more time for final negotiations, city officials have announced.

A public hearing was originally scheduled for Tuesday but Sue Georgino, director of redevelopment services, said some minor points still need to be hammered out.

“There are several fine details to be worked out before we take the agreements to council,” Georgino said, adding that the project is progressing according to expectations.

Watt Development Co. has been planning the massive commercial and residential project for several months. Initial plans call for apartments, homes and businesses to fill the 50-acre site.

Also continued until September were hearings to discuss several issues related to the downtown project, including the environmental impact report, plans for Birch Street and an amendment to the Brea Towne Plaza Specific Plan.

Residents with questions or who wish to review the planning documents may do so at the city planner’s office, the Brea Library at the Brea Civic, and the Cultural Center at 1 Civic Center Plaza.
