Public Ignored in Resort Vote

Share

The City Council of Rancho Palos Verdes has spent five years debating the merits of a large hotel development on the Marineland site. The debates took five years because the residents of the city of Rancho Palos Verdes were opposed to such development.

They opposed the destruction of the natural setting. They opposed the violation of the intent of Rancho Palos Verdes’ General Plan. They opposed the size of the proposed hotel. They opposed the town homes and single-family residences, which were a part of the “hotel” plan. They opposed the City Council’s disregard for the traffic, noise and pollution problems a hotel project could generate. They opposed the destruction of the view they enjoyed while driving along Palos Verdes Drive South. They opposed construction of a golf course on an active landslide. They opposed the destruction of the natural habitat of the wild creatures living along the bluffs and in the waters.

The City Council of Rancho Palos Verdes spent five years “listening” to its residents. On July 7, the City Council approved the plans for a hotel complex. The vote was unanimous within the council itself. The vote had little to do with the wishes of the residents of the city of Rancho Palos Verdes. It is a blatant lie to pretend otherwise.
