Pebble Beach Co. Seeks to Block State: Pebble Beach Co. said it is seeking to prevent the California Coastal Commission from overruling its plan to sell memberships in a new private club at the legendary Pebble Beach coastal golf club in Monterey. The company said it filed suit in San Francisco Superior Court seeking to enjoin the commission from hearing an appeal of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors’ approval of the membership plan. The company said it argued that the Coastal Commission has no jurisdiction over the matter. Last week, the commission ordered Pebble Beach Co. not to implement the plan until it can decide if an appeal filed by a Monterey County resident, who claimed the membership plan would limit public access to the coast, merits its consideration.
