Free agent John Salley might be nearing a deal to leave the Detroit Pistons and play for an Italian League team, according to The Oakland Press in Pontiac, Mich.
Giancarlo Sarti, general manager of the Italian League’s defending champions, Phanola Caserta, told the newspaper that the team is awaiting Salley’s response to a contract offer.
“We’ve made him an offer, but he may want to go back to the Pistons,” Sarti told the newspaper. “We’re waiting. And hoping.”
The newspaper also reported that the Pistons have agreed to release 14-year veteran James Edwards from the last year of his contract so he can play for Knorr Bologna of the Italian League.
