A 27-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after he crashed his car into the living room of an Oxnard house and then fled, police said.

Jimmy Hunter of Oxnard was being held in Ventura County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor hit-and-run driving and possession of narcotics, authorities said. Bail was set at $10,500, a jail spokesman said.

Hunter was driving south on Ventura Road south of Holly Avenue at 3:45 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of his car and veered off the road, Oxnard Police Sgt. Jeff Young said. Hunter’s car struck the northeast corner of a house along the street and came to a stop inside the living room, causing major damage, Young said. Hunter fled and was caught by police nearby, Young said. Young added that police found that Hunter had some cocaine, but the officer didn’t know how much.

Hunter was treated for cuts at Ventura County Medical Center. Denise Johnson, 26, who lives in the house, was at home but was not injured, Young said.
