NATIONAL ROUNDUP : Sea Cadet Wins Longacres Derby by 12 Lengths

Sea Cadet, trained by Southland-based Ron McAnally, won the $150,000 Longacres Derby by 12 lengths near Seattle on Sunday.

Sea Cadet was ridden by Alex Solis.

Double Booked took the lead at the start and held off Who’s To Pay gamely in the final yards to win the $119,000 Bernard Baruch Handicap by a nose at Saratoga.

It was the sixth victory in seven starts this year for Double Booked, who covered 1 1/8 miles on the Main Turf Course in 1:49 to earn $71,400 for Robert Gorham.

Heavy favorite Black Tie Affair led all of the way for a 3 1/2-length victory in Ak-Sar-Ben’s $125,000 Cornhusker Handicap, his third consecutive stakes victory and fourth this year.

Pat Day rode the 5-year-old son of Miswaki, who was the 1-5 favorite. Black Tie Affair covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48 3/5, three-fifths of a second off the stakes record set by Private Thoughts in 1977.
