Blackout Affects Shopping Center

A short-circuit in a cable caused a 30-minute power outage Monday evening in and around the Mesa Verde Center on Harbor Boulevard at Wilson Street.

About 3,150 customers switched to another circuit line after the 6:43 p.m. failure and received power minutes later, Steven Hansen, a Southern Edison spokesman, said.

At the Kona Lanes bowling alley in the shopping center, bowlers waited out the problem, manager Cherie Nagy said.

“We had good group of bowlers in here Monday night, probably about 160 patrons in the building at the time. They just held on until the lights came back on,” she said. “Everyone took it in stride.”

The failed cable line was fixed 30 minutes later, Hansen said.
