Quick Fixes: With fewer tourists around to fill hotel rooms, some hotels are taking advantage of the lull by remodeling.

The Disneyland Hotel has closed one of its main towers during the normally busy summer tourist season for a complete renovation. Some smaller competitors are remodeling as well.

The former Premier Inn has reopened as the 51-suite Ana Mesa Inn at Harbor and MacArthur boulevards. With a new name to reflect its location--it straddles Costa Mesa and Santa Ana--the Ana Mesa is trying to cater to business travelers by offering whirlpool baths, free newspapers and local calls and complimentary airport transportation.

General Manager Paul Ding says he would rather not be opening during a recession but “had no choice. We had a situation where we had to renovate and, hopefully, we should be able to create a niche because this is a business and office environment.”
