Facts Missed on Airport

Share

In his July 29 letter to the editor, Robert J. Purvis really missed the facts on the Oxnard Airport.

Camarillo Airport is larger in land area than Oxnard, but it also has nearby residential areas. It is Oxnard, not Camarillo, that has a passenger terminal and precision instrument landing system (ILS). The turboprops operating at Oxnard carry the same ILS receivers as the large jets.

No jet could operate into Oxnard any better than the turboprops of today without an upgrade of ground facilities. Safety could be compromised by addition of an ILS at Camarillo, due to the proximity of the mountains.
