Doug Rader and his team are waiting to learn whether the Angels’ five-week slide will cost the manager his job. But Angel Executive Vice President Jackie Autry, who acknowledges Rader’s position is in jeopardy, said Tuesday his job is probably safe for the remainder of the 11-game trip that ends Aug. 22.

“Right now there’s been no decision,” she said. “We’re giving everybody somewhat the benefit of the doubt. My husband (owner Gene Autry) and I tend to be somewhat patient, and really, not everything is Doug’s fault.”

The Angels have lost 11 of their last 12, and 25 of 34.

“When trying to focus on the manager, all you can say is: Have you given the manager the players he wanted at the beginning of the year? Are the players gelling together? And are they playing to their capability?” she said.

“Their job is to execute, and the manager’s job is to get them to.”

She and other Angel executives have steadfastly declined to endorse Rader unconditionally.

“A lot of things can happen between now and the end of the year,” she said. “It’s difficult to say he has a 100% vote of confidence. We have to hang tough. Hopefully this will go away. Still, we have to examine our options, just as we do with players for next season.”

The Angels scored their fourth run of the game by the fourth inning Tuesday, which was a good sign. They have lost 12 consecutive games in which they scored three or fewer runs, and 28 of their past 29 such games. . . . Despite hitting his 13th homer Monday night, Lance Parrish extended his streak of games with at least one strikeout to 19.
