Herbert Stanton Greene; Director

Movie and television director Herbert Stanton Greene has died at his Studio City home. He was 85.

Greene was found dead in his home Aug. 9, after suffering a heart attack, apparently on his birthday Aug. 5, said his former wife, Velma A. Greene of Valencia.

Born in Columbia, S.C., Greene came to California in the mid-1930s. He started working in the property department of Warner Bros. Studios. Later, he worked as a production manager and as assistant director on “The Lone Ranger” television show and director of the TV series “Private Secretary” from 1954 to 1957. Greene, who directed dozens of films, including “The Cosmic Man” (1959) and “Outlaw Queen” (1957), worked in the entertainment industry until the time of the death. He was a member of the Directors Guild of America.

He is survived by his sons, Douglas S. Greene of Studio City and Donald S. Greene of Moorpark, and two grandchildren.

Private services have been held. Lorenzen Mortuary in Reseda handled the arrangements.
