Share

A dozen mutilated cats have been left on the front lawns of West Los Angeles homes since July 8, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said Thursday.

“The mutilated cats are just left on the lawns,” Cori Whetstone of SPCA said. “In one case, the paws and ears were arranged in a pattern and evenly spaced apart.”

The mutilated cats were found in the 800 block of Burnside Avenue, the 600 block of Martel Avenue, the 400 and 800 blocks of North Laurel Avenue, and in the 800 block of South Stanley Avenue.

SPCA spokeswomen Jan Smith said that the second cat was discovered July 23 with its head severed with a rope or wire. Since then, cat parts such as paws, heads and ears have been discovered. The SPCA is offering a $1,500 reward for information about the mutilations.
