PIER PRESSURE: In trying to raise private donations for its new pier, Huntington Beach has been up against a national recession, but the contributions are still trickling in. . . . In a report to the City Council this week, City Administrator Michael T. Uberuaga said the fund-raising campaign has netted almost $1.4 million in private gifts. That’s only half the $2.8 million the city hoped to collect from private interests come pier completion time next spring. . . . But Uberuaga said the effort is going well, “given the economic climate the campaign has to operate within.”
