Real Culprits Behind Death of Woman

Share

As we read about the suit against Orange County by the parents of a girl who was mauled in a county park and permanently injured by a mountain lion, we tried to imagine the anguish and despair her parents must have felt. We tried to compare these emotions to those we imagine were felt by the family of a woman who recently was shot dead in her car in Westminster.

It does not seem fair to us that the parents of the injured girl can sue the county while the family of the murdered woman have no one to sue. Surely someone should have to pay money for her murder.

The lawyers for the injured girl claim that, because county park rangers knew before the incident that a big cat had been acting strangely in the park and that it might have posed a danger to humans, they should have posted warning signs or taken other precautionary measures.

Surely the chief of police and mayor of Westminster knew that people had been acting strangely in their city and that these people might have posed a danger to humans. In fact, while no one had ever been attacked before by a mountain lion in that park, people had been shot at on the streets of Westminster before. Why don’t we expect the city of Westminster to post signs at its borders warning that you might be shot in your car, or even have them forbid people to drive in Westminster until the problem has been cleared up?

We think the family of the murdered woman should be able to sue someone with big bucks too.
