MUNCHING MELON: A watermelon-eating contest is scheduled today at the Alhambra Farmers Market, Chico Street and Stoneman Avenue, from 8 a.m. to noon; admission is free.

HOUSE TOUR: The Monrovia Historical Society will conduct tours of the restored George Anderson House, 215 E. Lime Ave.; from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today.

SHOPPING CENTER: The Huntington Park City Council is expected to approve plans Monday to build a $35-million shopping center on a four-block site now occupied by aging factories, stores, houses and apartments.

CONTROLLER CLASSES: Classes begin Monday in an air traffic controller training program at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. It is among a handful of colleges nationwide that have been granted the right to offer such training programs.

AGING PARENTS: A program on managing problems with aging parents is planned by the Single Adult Fellowship of Arcadia Presbyterian Church, 121 Alice St., at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

FAIRFAX SENIOR TALENT: The annual senior talent show will be staged Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Fairfax High School Auditorium, 7850 Melrose Ave, sponsored by the city of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Admission is free.
