BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Daniels Has Bone Chips in Left Knee

Share

Kal Daniels has been playing with bone chips in his left knee that could require surgery after the season, said Daniels and Frank Jobe, Dodger medical director.

“Yeah, I’m sure it could use some cleaning out,” Daniels said. “But there is no way I’m going to get it done before the end of the year.”

Said Jobe: “We’ll see what happens at the end of the year, but if the chips are bothering him, we’ll take them out.”

Daniels was batting .282 in the 31 games before Monday. His 12 home runs ranked second on the team and his 52 runs-batted-in ranked third.

“Some days it hurts to start and stop, and other days it hurts to cut,” Daniels said. “But not one day goes by when one of the knee doesn’t hurt, I don’t even think about it anymore.”

In the first 17 games of August, the Dodgers used 63 pitchers, or nearly four per game. The Dodgers have not had a complete game since July 30. . . . Orel Hershiser threw in the outfield Monday afternoon and said that he will make his scheduled start Wednesday against Ricky Bones.
