Mattel Plans Budget Line: Mattel Toys said it will compete in the low-priced, non-TV-promoted basic doll category this fall with a complete line of baby dolls manufactured and sold through the company’s ARCO Toys Ltd. subsidiary. The line will consist of 34 different items in assortments totaling close to 80 different dolls, many priced in the under $10 range. The line will begin shipping in the fourth quarter this year. Items in the line will be marketed under the “Lovable Babies” and “My Beautiful Baby” trademarks.
