Police were still searching Tuesday for a man suspected in a hit-and-run accident that severed a teen-ager’s leg.
Police said the suspect, whose name they would not release, may be headed for Mexico.
Meanwhile, the condition of 16-year-old Jose Viramontes was downgraded to very critical Tuesday by doctors at UCI Medical Center in Orange, a spokeswoman said.
Viramontes and six members of his family were walking on West Wilhelmina Street on Monday afternoon when a car jumped the curb, pinning Viramontes against a house, severing his leg, and knocking his relatives to the ground. Three of the relatives suffered minor injuries and the other three were unhurt.
