Monrovia : Trash Fees to Climb 8.5%
The City Council approved an 8.5% increase in monthly trash fees Tuesday night, after the city’s private trash hauler agreed to provide an annual large-item pickup day.
The rate increase means that residents who use a 90-gallon trash container will pay $9.54 a month, up from $8.87, and those who use a 60-gallon container will pay $7.88 instead of $7.34.
The fee increase was tabled two weeks ago after Mayor Robert Bartlett questioned Newco Waste Systems’ willingness to pick up oversized items such as couches and appliances free of charge. On Tuesday, acting City Manager Jeanne Kennedy said that Newco would arrange an annual cleanup day for such items.
The increase was approved on a 3-0 vote, with Bartlett and Councilman William Card absent.
