Birtcher Medical Systems Inc.: The Irvine medical equipment manufacturer posted net income of $1.6 million, or 28 cents a share, for the year ended June 30, compared to net income of $31,000 a year ago, or a per-share loss of 11 cents after payments to preferred shareholders. Revenue rose 69%, to $31 million, from $18.3 million. For the fourth quarter, net income totaled $515,000, or 8 cents a share, up from $411,000, or 8 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales increased 21%, to $8.2 million from $6.8 million. William E. Maya, president and chief executive, said sales rose in almost every product category.
