A 76-year-old Panorama City man died Friday after being stabbed repeatedly in the neck by his 67-year-old ex-roommate in an argument over money, Los Angeles police said.

The victim, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, died at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Officer Robert Denton said.

Earl Bernard Cross, also of Panorama City, was held without bail at the Van Nuys station jail on suspicion of murder, Denton said.

The incident in the 9000 block of Tobias Avenue near Nordhoff Street occurred about 8 a.m. Friday and was reported to authorities by a disabled neighbor who overheard the dispute, Denton said.

Cross was arrested without incident at his nearby home about an hour after the slaying.

The men had been friends and roommates, but the victim recently moved out of their home, Denton said.
