BUENA PARK : 5 Dwellings Face Demolition by City
The City Council this week gave the owners of five dilapidated buildings 30 days to bring them up to safety code standards or tear them down.
The unanimous action follows a previous decision by the council declaring the houses and apartments on Larsen Lane--a dirt road off Western Avenue--a public nuisance. The owners of 6445, 6465, 6459, 6467 and 6469 Larsen were cited for unsafe conditions ranging from faulty electrical wiring to leaking ceilings.
Several families live in the dilapidated dwellings and could face eviction if the corrections are not made. George Brown, who owns two of the cited properties, has begun making the improvements. However, the other landlords say the city has not notified them of the violations.
If the property owners fail to make the changes within the prescribed time period, the city will demolish the buildings at the owners’ expense.
