Booth Winds Up in Third Place at PGA Junior

Coto de Caza’s Kellee Booth, who shared the 54-hole lead, shot an 11-over-par 83 Friday in the final round of the PGA Junior Championships at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She finished third with a 310 total, five strokes behind winner Julie Brand.

David Dawley parred the second playoff hole to beat Chip Spiron for the boys’ title. Paul Hinkle of Costa Mesa shot 73 for a 308 total, nine behind the leaders.

The third round was suspended by rain Thursday with Booth leading Brand by one shot. Friday morning Booth completed the final six holes of Round 3, posting a 78 that dropped her into a tie for the lead.

Brand, of Alder Creek, N.Y., shot a final-round 78 for a 305 total and a three-stroke victory over Jeong Min Park of Alameda, who closed with a 77.

Dawley, of Chandler, Okla., and Spiron, of Goldsboro, N.C., finished 72 holes over the 6,572-yard Champion course with 11-over-par 299 totals--the highest winning score in tournament history. Dawley had a 77 Friday; Spiron a 70.

After matching bogeys on the first extra hole, Dawley two-putted for par on the second hole and Spiron missed a six-footer.
