*** The Psychedelic Furs, “World Outside,” Columbia. Finally: a worthy successor to 1981’s “Talk Talk Talk,” though it would have been more worthy in 1982. Richard Butler’s voice and lyrics on such songs as “Don’t Be a Girl” again have the snarling bite of the original, pre-Hollywood “Pretty in Pink” and there is once more the bracing tension of understated melodic elegance scraping against understated musical discord.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to five (a classic).
