California IN BRIEF : GEYSERVILLE : Balloonist Starts Search; Body Found

A body was discovered in a shallow grave by the Russian River Saturday after the errant landing of a hot air balloon, authorities said. A woman called the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department after a balloonist who landed in a field next to her house discovered a jacket that seemed to be covered with blood, Sheriff’s Lt. George Phillips said. A deputy found what looked like more blood on the ground in the area where the jacket was found. A search uncovered a patch of dirt where the ground seemed to have been disturbed. Detectives and other investigators were called to the scene and the body was found in a makeshift grave.
