A 15-year-old Taiwanese girl, who was discovered last week at the bottom of a swimming pool in Bell Canyon, has died of her injuries, a sheriff’s spokesman said Monday. Shi Ching Huang died about 11 p.m. Sunday at Humana Hospital-West Hills in the San Fernando Valley, Lt. Joel Oksner said.

A hospital spokeswoman said Shi Ching had been in critical condition since Aug. 20, when she and her 12-year-old sister, Shih Wen, were found floating face down in the water.

Sheriff’s officials said the two sisters were visiting the home of their aunt and uncle, Gloria Liyu Chin and William Lee, and had been scheduled to return to Taiwan the following day.

Neither of the girls knew how to swim. The sisters were playing on rafts under the supervision of their aunt, who left them briefly to attend an infant inside the house. The aunt returned to find the girls face down in the pool.

Shih Wen was pulled out of the pool first by her uncle and given cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A spokeswoman for Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles said her condition is still serious.
