Environmental Group Raps Du Pont: The environmental group Friends of the Earth criticized chemical-giant Du Pont’s series of “green” advertisements, saying the company was the nation’s leading corporate polluter. But Wilmington, Del.-based Du Pont said in a statement that a report by the group does not contain any new allegations. The Friends of the Earth report said Du Pont’s total pollution in 1989 was 14 times that of Dow chemical, 20 times that of Chrysler and 30 times that of Mobil.
