A man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs Tuesday, after a three-vehicle crash in Hollywood that injured six people, at least two of them critically, police said.

Epinenio Solis, 42, was taken into custody following the crash at Gower Street and Hollywood Boulevard, said Lt. Charles Duke of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.

Solis was southbound on Gower in a Toyota pickup truck and in the left turn lane about 4:15 a.m. when his vehicle was involved in a collision with a Honda that was westbound on Hollywood Boulevard, Duke said.

The Honda caromed into a westbound tow truck, Duke said, but the driver of that vehicle was not hurt.

Solis and three passengers, including a man riding in the back of the truck, were injured, Duke said.

Firefighters using the “jaws of life” had to peel the Honda’s roof away to rescue two critically injured women, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Pat Marek.

Two people were taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, another went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, one was sent to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and one was taken to Kaiser Foundation Hospital-Los Angeles, Marek said.

The names of the injured were withheld pending notification of relatives, Duke said.
